We had a great time and we'll be returning once again. Is it perfect???? Heck no! But, it is perfect enough for me to return again and again.
The food and beverages have always been plentiful and delicious. Chris is keenly aware of what it takes to make hungry guys happy. We didn't meet Cyrus the first year but spent the entire time with him the second year. During our second stay a large group of "wanna be hunters" came in. They seemed to be more interested in partying than hunting. We privately expressed concern about hunting with them fearing an accident. Cyrus displayed true professionalism managing the group while ensuring everyone had a great time. I was very impressed with the way the entire staff handled the wild group.
The Best and it only keeps getting better!! I have been hunting all over the US and I must say that Double P Ranch is the best experience! I have hunted pheasants, deer and fished all in the same stay. The lodge is top notch and the food itself is worth the trip. After a long morning sitting in a deer stand Chris always seems to have just the right thing to hit the spot and the dinners he prepares are on par with some of the best restaurants I have dinned in. Game is plentiful at the lodge. I have shot and seen some of the biggest deer hunting at Double P in my life. I have made the trip to Double P Ranch for 10+ years and will continue to make it a tradition for years to come.
My son and I pheasant hunted at Double P Ranch in 2011 and 2012. The facility, food and staff is top notch. Chris, the chef, started weeks before we went in 2011. He did an awesome job for the new guy on the block. I was part of the group that experienced Chris's first "Field Lunch". It was twelve degrees outside and Chris was out cooking the birds we shot an hour before in his white chef outfit. Pheasant never tasted better!!!!
We have been 3 years in a row and have already booked next year. Excellent facilities. Chris, the chef, is 5 star and the guides Matt,Jesse, and Mongo are top notch. The hunting is kick ass. Tons of pheasant and monster deer run those lands. Can't wait to get back!
Two modern, newer lodges are not your dad's hunting camp. Modern, well maintained facility. We visited in August, off season, so can't comment on the hunting. I believe Double P has six square miles of land.
When considering overall value of hunting/lodging/food/experience, Double P is a great selection. Booking a trip at Double P will ensure you excellent hunting paired with a laid back yet higher end lodging experience. Matt/Jesse/Mike the guides and Chris the chef/manager are excellent and work extremely hard to ensure a successful trip. Cyrus invited us out ice fishing everyday. We never took him up on it but the guys who did really enjoyed themselves. I learned a lot while I was up there. Each group that comes in is so different. So many personalities, so many dreams and so many different ways to enjoy time away from home. Cyrus and his staff has to be ready for it all. One "attitude" or "big shot" changes the entire dynamics for everybody. I watched as Cyrus patiently managed the situation and he and his staff worked together to do absolutely everything they could to ensure each hunter was taken care of.
The guides and their dogs were great. They knew the fields and the expected behaviors of the birds based on the conditions. My son had special needs at the time we were up there. Cyrus made sure he got his 4 wheeler tuned up so my son could use it. My son was able to ride ahead of us and post up so we could push the fields. Without the use of the 4 wheeler my son would not have been able to participate in the hunt. It made all the difference in the world.
